What the bible says should happen to a person who commits murder

Numbers 35:16-17

16 And if he smite him with an instrument of iron, so that he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death. 17And if he smite him with throwing a stone, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death. 18 Or if he smite him with an hand weapon of wood, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.19The revenger of blood himself shall slay the murderer: when he meeteth him, he shall slay him.

Numbers 35:21

21 Or in enmity smite him with his hand, that he die: he that smote him shall surely be put to death; for he is a murderer: the revenger of blood shall slay the murderer, when he meeteth him.

Numbers 35:30-31

30 Whoso killeth any person, the murderer shall be put to death by the mouth of witnesses: but one witness shall not testify against any person to cause him to die.31Moreover ye shall take no satisfaction for the life of a murderer, which is guilty of death: but he shall be surely put to death.

That is one of the reason why Christian should support the death penalty. The only time I don’t support the death penalty,if the DNA samples doesn’t match the person who is on death row.The bible is very explicit on the death penalty.Does anybody here agree or disagree with me?

  1. I do believe in capital punishment. However, I feel that it needs to be applied with extra special care. I have no doubt that there could be people we have put to death who were innocent. I would only want the death penalty for people who were basically caught “red-handed”. In other words, if it is based solely on physical evidence, I’d want extra care being taken into consideration. This is a hard topic. Because when you are taking the life of an individual, you definitely want to make sure you have the right person.

  2. I agree with you 100% Jackie. There was a case here in Maryland where a teen aged girl was raped and killed back in 1984,the guy who got convicted was a guy named Kurt Bloodsworth,he spent 20 years on death row and it tured out he never did it.The DNA proved that he was not the guy.Back in the 1980’s him and my brother was cell mates and he would swear up and down that he was innocent of the killing. My brother believed him.He was set free back in 2004.The DNA matched some guy who was already in prison.I believed that John Wayne Gacy deserved the death penalty for killing those boys and burrying them in his basement.Like I said “Thank God we have DNA to get the innocent off.

  3. I don’t agree with the death penalty. I think people who are convicted, and normally sent to death row, should be imprisoned for the rest of their life without the possibility of parole. How can we be any different from the murderer if we also murder him?

    • While these passages from Numbers were laws given to Israel, and therefore people might make a case that they aren’t for us today, when we go back to Genesis 9:5b-6 God is giving a command to Noah, the federal head of everyone on earth, that cannot be denied.

Amanda, there is a very BIG difference between a murderer and an executioner. Murder is a crime, while execution is justified – and provided for – by God as a punishment for the crime of murder.

Many murderers have committed more murder while in prison. But why should our tax dollars be provided food and shelter for the rest of the guy’s life?

  4. I don’t agree. Execution is just called that to help those sleep at night that murdered the murderer.
